Description

PORSCHE 911 CARRERA 3. 0 TARGA TYPE SPORT YEAR 1977

The Porsche 911 Carrera 3. 0 occupies a special place in the history of the entire Porsche 911 range.
The Carrera 3. 0 engine is essentially the engine of the 911 Turbo (2993 cm3) without a turbocharger.
Moreover, the six-bolt flywheel is lighter and the 2. 7 RS crankshaft, shorter, were installed.
To compensate for the lack of boost from the 930’s turbo, Porsche increased the compression ratio and optimised Bosch K-Jetronic fuel injection to yield a three-litre unit rated at 200 horsepower and 255 Nm of torque at 4, 200 rpm for a weight of 1, 120 kg.
A relatively low torque point that avoids chasing efficiency too far up the rev range, and the solid aluminium engine block from the 930 turbo make it a particularly reliable model.
The Carrera 3. 0 was marketed and distributed only in Europe for the 1976 and 1977 model years. 3, 687 units were built, of which 2, 564 were coupes and only 1, 123 in Targa, including 646 in 1977.
The final cars of the J-series (the model presented here is part of it) were offered in one of two specifications: “Classic” or “Sport” (the model shown).
The “Carrera 3. 0 Sport” featured Bilstein shock absorbers (instead of Koni), 16-inch wheels (instead of 15), a front-lip spoiler and a whale-tail style rear spoiler.
The transmission is a five-speed manual (optional).
For the 1977 model, the most notable change was the adoption of a servo-assisted brake. At the same time, clutch operation became much easier and smoother from 1977 onwards.
For the reasons mentioned above, the 1977 model today appears to be the best choice.

OUR VEHICLE

The Carrera 3. 0 we are offering for sale has never been restored, except for the upholstery (front seats, doors and dashboard) and is therefore in its original condition.

The original engine no. 667. 1734 was replaced by no. 667. 1110, which is also a 1977 Carrera 3. 0 engine, ensuring mechanical consistency and the vehicle’s historical value.

It is matching at the chassis number level and colour code: 443-9-3 (copper metallic brown).

- 395: 16-inch Fuchs wheels
- 474: Sport shocks front/ rear
- 481: Five-speed gearbox
