If there is one thing I hate about owning old cars, it’s being under them. I’m not particularly claustrophobic or anything, but even so, there is no way to be under a car and be comfortable with it. I’m sure plenty of you are fine, but I’m also pretty sure a great many of you are nodding along. Of course, this is why good quality axle stands<\/a> are a must. But that’s only half the story. You need to get the car up in the air, which can be a tense process in itself. You need a good, sturdy, solid jack. Something that will lift your car in a manner akin to Superman lifting a bus or something. You don’t want the car creaking and groaning on an old jack. Nor should you really use the factory jack – that’s for emergencies. What you need at home, for regular car liftery, is the Sealey 2001LEHV<\/a>. I bought one, and I can attest, it’s the last jack you’ll ever need.<\/p>\n

\"2001<\/a><\/p>\n

The Product<\/span><\/strong><\/h3>\n

I needed a trolley jack, and I wanted a beefy one as my Rover 800 is a bit on the lardy side. I’m also a fan of Sealey’s offerings, so I had a look at what they had. This 2001LEHV was just the ticket. It boasts low entry, with an impressive minimum height of 74mm, yet it can push the car 495mm closer to the sky. It can lift up to two tons, it’s got twin-pistons, so there is no slack or slop – it’s a very direct action, and best of all, it’s unapologetically bright green. Like a metal Kermit the Hulk or something. I don’t know, I don’t read comics. It seemed to be just the ticket though, and at well under \u00a3150, it was a bit of a bargain, too. Especially given Sealey’s aftersales support is excellent.<\/p>\n

\"2001<\/a><\/p>\n

The Test<\/span><\/strong><\/h3>\n

I have been using the 2001LEHV<\/a> for over a year now, and it’s never once let me down. I should warn you that it does weigh as much as a small planet, so be aware. However, once it’s on the deck, the heavy-duty wheels and front castors make it a doddle to use. The jack is simply superb on all fronts. The construction is outstanding. Moving it from place to place, I may have dropped it more than once. It still works, and the only thing that was damaged was the floor. And on one occasion, my foot. The two-piece handle is sturdy, is fitted with a robust grip and also has a foam coating on the lower section so you don’t wang it into your door with damaging consequence.<\/p>\n

The Result<\/span><\/strong><\/h3>\n

No complaints of any significance. This is a sturdy, solid, well-made bit of kit that will last forever if you look after it. My only small gripe is that the rubber pad in the saddle isn’t very good, and I’ve had to replace it a couple of times. But it’s only a couple of quid, and after gluing a new one in, it’s not been a problem since. The 2001LEHV<\/a> has lifted my 800 a depressing number of times, my Streetwise and even my big, heavy C Max, all without issue. This is the last Jack you’ll ever need, trust me.<\/p>\n

The Verdict – 5 out of 5<\/span><\/strong><\/h3>\n

I can’t even mark the 2001LEHV<\/a> down for the saddle pad issue. I’ll let that go, because the jack is so, so good. When this arrives, and once you have called an ambulance for the delivery driver, you’ll be staggered you paid less than \u00a3150 for it. If it was twice the price, you wouldn’t question it. Truly, this is one of the jewels within my arsenal of garage equipment. Best \u00a3150 I ever spent.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
