1967 Fiat Dino Spyder

Highlights

  • Exquisite Dino Spyder shape
  • Finished in a stunning Ferrari shade; Rosso Scuderia
  • Restored just 15 years ago
  • Very presentable throughout

The Appeal

In the motoring industry, the Dino name can sometimes feel like a ‘not-a-Ferrari’ model. However, the truth is that this 1967 Fiat Dino Spyder with fantastic styling and a characterful engine in its own right is a premium Fiat sports car capable of going toe-to-toe with Ferrari models of the era.

Presenting in the gorgeous Ferrari red shade of Rosso Scuderia, the styling is accentuated whilst the chrome details throughout make for a lovely throwback to the golden age of motoring. Indeed, the red respray occurred during a full restoration around 15 years ago.

During said work, the interior also got refreshed with a full retrim whilst the engine got a full rebuild. Today, the car runs smoothly and drives perfectly according to the owner, no doubt thanks to the extensive £4,000 service undertaken just a few months ago.

The Interior

  • Reupholstered interior
  • Presents very nicely
  • Nice, airy cockpit

A drop top sportscar from the 1960s, this Fiat Dino Spyder presents a fantastic opportunity for open air touring. Indeed, the roof peels away without fuss and welcomes the elements into what is already a very pleasant interior.

During the restoration, this car was fully reupholstered meaning the seats, steering wheel and even dashboard present in a fantastic condition, despite work dating back over 15 years. In fact, a crack in the dash lead to the owners coating it in leather, which certainly does not make for an unattractive cabin.

Furthermore, the carpets all look very clean, as do the instruments and controls throughout the centre console. An elegant Dino badge presents a nice centre piece to the cockpit whilst the five-speed gear knob appears nice and ergonomic. The door cards also show very few signs of wear.

Open the boot lid and you will see a small area for a weekend’s worth of luggage. Under the floor, one will spot the full size spare wheel in very nice shape.

The Exterior

  • Gorgeous Fiat Dino Spyder styling
  • Finished in Rosso Scuderia, Ferrari shade
  • Very nice condition throughout

From a time when car design was a major selling point and a manufacturer’s passion reflected in its cars’ designs, this Fiat Dino Spyder features absolutely gorgeous bodywork. From the overall sweeping side profile to intricate details such as the characterful light layout and sumptuous chrome details, the car truly stands out on the road. Furthermore, the spindly windscreen manages to hide itself with the roof down leaving an unspoilt line from front to rear.

This elegant body is finished in a coat of Rosso Scuderia. Indeed, the car was fully resprayed around 15 years ago during its major restoration in a non-original coat of the iconic Ferrari colour. Popping very nicely in the sun, it certainly suits the car, despite not bearing the Prancing Horse.

Aside from the sparkling paint, the body is complimented by several chrome details that seem to truly shine. Wing mirrors, door handles and bumpers all act as styling queues in true old-school style, unlike automobiles of today.

Speaking of chrome, the wheels do present some scuff marks in places but are capped off with a stunning set of chrome spinners. The rims are fitted with a seemingly fresh set of Michelin MXV4 tyres that suit the car well.

Underneath, there are certainly signs of wear and tear around the jacking points. However, the chassis does look clean and intact for the mostpart.

The Mechanics

  • 2-litre V6, 158hp
  • Engine fully rebuilt 15 years ago
  • Drives perfectly

As the Dino name suggests, this 1960s drop top Fiat is powered by a 2-litre V6 putting out a commendable 158hp. Indeed, had it featured a motor of the 8-cylinder variety, this model would certainly have worn a Ferrari badge. That powerplant is connected to a five-speed manual gearbox for maximum driving pleasure.

During the full restoration undertaken around 15 years ago, the engine was fully rebuilt and has clearly since been well cared for. Indeed, an invoice totalling over £4,000 shows a lot of work done to the mechanics including the brake system, steering and engine fluids.

Following good care and attention, the car reportedly runs very well. Indeed, the owner mentions that it drives perfectly. Indeed, they describe it as a “good car.”

Summary

Presenting beautifully, this 1967 Fiat Coupe was fully restored around 15 years ago after making the intrepid journey to the UK from America. Indeed, a full respray in a Ferrari red along with great styling and gorgeous chrome details means it is no doubt a stunning vehicle that will grab attention on the road.

A recent extensive service means the car runs like a dream and reportedly drives perfectly. It will certainly fit perfectly in any Italian automobile collection.
