The Appeal
It's hard to argue that during the 60s and 70s, Mercedes-Benz were among the foremost car manufacturers in the world. Top-notch build quality, impressive performance and iconic design made this generation of vehicles true 'thinking men's motors' - and were consistently praised throughout their tenure.
Perhaps the prettiest of them was the W113 'Pagoda' - which took on the exemplary styling from the past couple of Mercedes-Benz motors with the addition of a handsome concave hard top and fishbowl lights. It didn't end there, though - the W113 gained a reputation for being one of the safest cars of its era, and offered perky six-pot performance to boot.
Of the Pagodas, the 'California Coupe' was one of the most desirable. Supplied with only a removable hard-top, the removal of the soft-top mechanism meant that the car could facilitate a rear bench seat, without disrupting the car's beautiful lines. These are hard to come by, and highly clamoured for, let alone in UK, RHD spec like this car.
This fine example of the car was a Concours prospect for the Mercedes-Benz club back in 2011, and still looks in fine fettle. The attractive cream livery and red cabin still offer a very attractive prospect for the lucky buyer. The vendor reports that the car's very low odometer reading is accurate.
