The Appeal
The Series 3 was conceived as a test-bed for Jaguar’s new V12 engine, but really it was much more than that. Widening the track, updating the looks and, of course, fitting that super smooth power plant arguably made the E-Type the GT it was always aiming to be.
Most of these final cars went abroad, leaving only 1,872 convertibles built in RHD. We’re told that this automatic car has been in the same family since 1974, with the current keeper since 2012. With that provenance, it is a great find for the Jaguar enthusiast. The car is finished in rare and factory correct Azure Blue following a repaint in 2010. The black fabric roof was renewed in 2015. Thanks to very sparing use since, the condition remains little altered.
We are told that since 2023, £13,000 has been invested in the mechanics, including new exhaust manifold, starter motor and gearbox repairs. The vendor also advises that the car carries a large history file featuring all MOTs and many invoices. Factory paperwork is said to confirm the specification.
The Series 3 is the sort of E-Type you can use and enjoy. This car’s provenance and recent work set it apart.
