The Appeal

Beloved of left-field thinkers everywhere, Saab built some of the most interesting and well-engineered cars of the 20th century. Quirky but superbly finished, it’s little wonder that they continue to enjoy an enthusiastic and loyal following amongst fans of modern classics.

This handsome 900 could well be the ideal retro ride for this summer too – offering Saab’s traditionally eccentric styling approach twinned with a convertible roof and the company’s usual high quality of build. This car is in very good condition with little wear - it only needs a good valet.

The History and Paperwork

  • First registered in 1990
  • Imported to the Netherlands in 2003
  • 211,431Km indicated
  • Complete with the owner’s handbook and two keys
  • Current APK test to June 2023, but the vendor informs us that the car will be delivered with a fresh technical inspection

The Interior

  • Smart dark grey leather upholstery in good order, with no splits, tears or other damage
  • Dark grey carpets and complementary OEM Saab mats, in good condition
  • Electric windows and door mirrors - all in good working order
  • Removable wind deflector that sits behind the front seats
  • Modern Sony CD/radio system with Aux input
  • We did note a slight crack to the veneer of the glovebox
  • All of the switchgear and controls are in good condition, with some patination and wear commensurate with the vehicle’s age and mileage

The Exterior

  • Solid red paintwork in nice condition for the age, with only some very small marks and blemishes
  • The vendor tells us that the car was resprayed to a high standard a few years back
  • Electrically operated convertible roof in good working order
  • The black fabric roof is in good order, with no significant UV damage and no tears or notable wear
  • All of the bodywork is solid and straight, with no corrosion, dents or major scuffs
  • The front-hinged ‘clamshell’ style bonnet, sometimes a weak point on these cars, is in good order
  • Iconic and period-correct 15-inch three-spoke alloy wheels are in fine fettle, with a handful of slight scuffs and marks, but nothing that would worry us
  • The wheels are shod in a good set of Michelin tyres with decent tread levels

The Mechanics

  • 1,985cc, 16-valve four-cylinder engine
  • Front-wheel drive
  • Five-speed manual transmission
  • Engine bay is clean and tidy, car has had a recent mechanical overhaul by a Saab specialist
  • No faults or mechanical issues, car will be delivered with a fresh technical inspection

Summary

Speak to anyone who has owned a Saab and you’ll soon be regaled with tales of how wonderful these cars are. Certainly, they now make for very fine – and eminently usable – modern classics. This solid and straight example should be good for many years to come.
