The Appeal
Launched in 1990 to replace the hugely popular Renault 5, the Clio matched the sales success of its predecessor and won multiple awards including the prestigious 'European Car of the Year' in 1991. It was also this year that a fuel-injected, 1.8-litre 16v version was introduced to the range - a no nonsense naturally aspirated hot hatch with 137 bhp and a 130-mph top speed.
This 1994 example has undergone painstaking mechanical restoration, using high-quality materials and adhering to manufacturer recommendations. The bodywork has undergone a full professional respray while the original interior has been carefully preserved. The extensive mechanical work carried out includes a new clutch, starter motor, and a fully overhauled electronic ignition system. The braking system has been upgraded with new Brembo discs and pads, and the entire coolant system has been cleaned and fitted with reinforced hoses.
With all maintenance completed just 500 km ago, this Renault Clio is mechanically healthy and ready to enjoy.
The vendor, an automotive engineer, has a life-long passion for these cars and has fulfilled their ambition to own and restore one. Here's their story:
"Since I saw this car on the street in the 90s, I fell in love with it. I am passionate about rallies and I have followed them since I was little. One of my favourite drivers was Jean Ragnotti (Jeanott), who won with several Renaults. Among them was of course this Clio 16v Gr.A model and then a MaxiClio which was a wider than normal Williams Clio.

For me and many others, it is the best car of the 90s, above the Golf GTI, the Peugeot 205 GTI, Ford Fiesta XR2, etc..."
