The Appeal

The Cadillac Escalade EXT is one of the most luxurious pick-ups available anywhere in the world. Equipped with the omnipotent 6.0-litre V8 paired to a four-speed auto cogbox, it boasts 345 brake horsepower, all-wheel drive, feels super stable on the road and offers a forgiving ride. What’s more, they are highly capable tow vehicles – perfect for adventurous outdoor types or the horsey set.

The History and Paperwork

 • Fastidiously maintained by current keeper.
 • Expansive range of spares and maintenance records.
 • V5 certificate in keeper’s name.

This well-presented left-hand drive Escalade EXT rolled off the General Motors assembly line at Silao, Mexico, Texas in April, 2004 and made its way across the sea to Japan where it spent much of its life until arriving in the UK in the summer of 2017, after which it was allocated its registration of RG04 EKC to the Reading-based importer, its first UK keeper.

The Cadillac was acquired by its current keeper in mid-March, 2020 who has enjoyed it as much as possible given the Covid-19 restrictions of the past two years. Due to declining health, the keeper has reluctantly offered this EXT up for sale to a new keeper who hopefully will continue to enjoy its significant road gravitas and marvel at its hugely-impressive towing capability.

Accompanying the car will be a comprehensive file of service and maintenance records, a downloaded copy of the Owner’s Manual, two key fobs and the V5 certificate in the current keeper’s name.

The Interior

 • Original specification and accessories.
 • Fully original condition.
 • Tidy and unblemished interior.

As may be anticipated from this high-end luxury United States marque, the interior of this Cadillac presents in exceptional condition and is an olfactory delight for those who appreciate quality and class.

While short of concours condition, the impeccable interior offers up swathes of superior leather covering the armchair-like furniture and a balanced blend of leather and pristine veneered wood trims adorn the well-laid-out dashboard, centre console, steering wheel and door cards.

All the switchgear and interior electricals including seat adjustments and windows are said by the vendor to be in fine working order. The EXT is fitted with rear-facing DVD screens built in to the headrests and front sun visors.

From its launch, the Cadillac EXT offered the innovative ‘mid-gate’ system which is a clever and well-executed solution for someone who alternately needs an extendable pick-up truck load area and a five-seat passenger vehicle.

The Exterior

 • Significant road gravitas.
 • Clever stowage and load tray extension.
 • A few minor blemishes, but easily remedied.

Handsomely presented in its original White Diamond Pearl (code 800J), the excellent condition of the interior continues to the exterior of this Cadillac and is indicative of the love and care afforded to it by its previous and – particularly – its current keeper.

The original factory-fitted alloy wheels are in fair condition, but are pitted rather severely between the spokes. They would benefit from a complete refurbishment by the next keeper. Meanwhile, they are shod with a good set of Grenlander Dias ZERO rubber all round. The front headlamp lenses were replaced by the current keeper and the rear light clusters show no hint of fogging.

A clever stowage system was designed into the original Cadillac EXT over the rear wheel arches which incorporate deep ‘pockets’ with lockable lids. A cursory glance down each flank of the car shows no evidence of damage.

There are a few minor issues to this car’s exterior, detailed images of which are shown in the accompanying gallery. As stated, they are all minor and any professional body shop/detailer worthy of stature would make short work of them – and likely for not for silly money either.

The Mechanics

 • Whatever has been needed has been done.
 • Fully serviced and maintained.
 • Drives and thrills as intended.

At the photo location in Dorset, the Cadillac Escalade EXT was frequently repositioned by us to obtain the best of the challenging light at this time of year. Somewhat naturally, the vehicle started first and every time and settled into an appreciative, throaty burble that only a well-tuned V8 can produce.

The automatic four-speed gearbox connected smoothly – including reverse – and drive engaged with no drama, requiring a light feathering of the revs to get underway. The custodian reports the car to be in excellent mechanical condition with steering, brakes, engine, drivetrain and running gear performing as well as their respective engineers intended nearly twenty years ago.

Like the immediately visible parts of this car, the underside and lower sills present in very good order with a degree of natural oxidation that may reasonably be expected on a car of this age.

The vendor can also confirm that the following parts have been sourced and fit to the vehicle (evidence in the form of an invoice from RockAuto can be found in the image gallery):

• 4 x new Lambda Sensors fitted
• 1 x new suspension arm ball joint Near side
• 1 x new suspension arm ball joint Off side
• 2 x new Catalytic Converters

And finally, the vehicle will benefit from a fresh MOT.

Summary

Eagle eye viewers may recognise this vehicle from previous auctions here at Car & Classic. Unfortunately, due to factors not concerning neither the seller or the car, previous sales have not been able to complete.

Maintained and serviced to an exemplary level, no expense has been spared by the current keeper of this Cadillac Escalade EXT. As detailed in the image of parts dated 2019, if it has been needed then it has been sourced and procured – even directly from the States.

Cadillac simply doesn’t ‘do’ subtle. Much of the Cadillac Escalade EXT's appeal is rooted in its wonderfully over-the-top attitude. Generously proportioned inside and out, this sport-utility vehicle has a bold and angular face, exaggerated wreath-and-crest badging and chrome trim everywhere you look. There's no subtlety under the thick skin either, with its omnipotent 6.0-litre V8.

There is little question that the Escalade EXT was primarily intended for buyers who like their pick-ups large, brash and unapologetically American.
