Triumph’s limited-edition Bonneville T214 was introduced in 2014 to celebrate the achievements of Texas-born racer Johnny Allen and his record-breaking Triumph-powered Cee-Gar streamliner which, in 1956, set the first of many land-speed records at the Bonneville Salt Flats by recording a two-way average of 214.4mph.
Only one thousand examples were made, each individually numbered, and the vendor believes that only 80 were sold into the UK market, making this a rare and collectible bike. It’s number 10 of the 1000, and is to all intents and purposes in as-new condition, the vendor having bought it new in 2014 and ridden it only on one trip to France and Belgium to run it in.
It’s been kept garaged throughout his tenure, and the condition reflects this limited mileage and careful storage.
The History and Paperwork
Number 10 of 1000
Current V5
Original sales invoice
MoT until June 2024
Past MoT certificates
Original Triumph folder
Original owner’s handbook
Original service handbook
Original brochure
Having bought the bike new, the vendor has retained all the original paperwork and handbooks. The past MoT certificates verify the bike’s low mileage. With other cars and bikes and limited storage space, the vendor has concluded that he doesn’t use the bike enough to justify keeping it and has reluctantly decided to part with it.
The Exterior
In extremely good condition throughout
Hand-painted Caspian Blue and Pure White colour scheme
Special paint scheme, using the distinct colours of the Texas Cee-Gar
Tank badge celebrating Johnny Allen’s 1956 land speed record
Smaller deep-bowl headlight
Black rims, handlebars and rear suspension springs
Red seat stitching
Re-profiled rear mudguard
Toolbag mounted on front forks
It’s clear from even a cursory glance that the bike is virtually as good as new, with the paintwork, the wheels and all mechanical parts unmarked. It really sparkled in the sunshine on the day of our photoshoot. There a few scuffs on the exhaust on the bike’s left-hand side, but otherwise it’s hard to spot any faults.
The vendor has mounted a handy toolbag on the front of the bike, but everything else is completely original.
The Mechanics
865cc DOHC parallel-twin engine
5-speed gearbox
Electronic fuel injection
Keihin carburettor
The vendor has a long history as a motorcyclist, having ridden since the age of 17, and he says that this is the best-riding bike he’s ever owned. He reports that it rides and handles beautifully. It starts first time and runs with a lovely engine note, but with so few recent miles it might need some attention before being ridden hard.
Summary
In immaculate condition and with just 512 miles on the clock, this limited-edition bike looks almost as though it has just rolled out of the showroom. It’s a bike that will be bound to attract attention wherever it goes; there can’t be many Bonneville 214s around in such outstanding condition and with this mileage.
