2021 Norton Commando 961 Sport MK2

Highlights

  • Near-new condition
  • Incredibly low mileage
  • Inspired by the classic Commando models

The Appeal

The 961 Commando is a nod towards the original Commandos, and offers an excellent balance of modern technology, with styling cues inspired by the classics.

The 961 presents an excellent option for those looking to relive the past, with the welcome addition of modern comforts.

This Mk2 example finished in Titanium Grey is one of the later models produced, and has only covered a mere 582 miles throughout its life.

As the bike has covered so few miles, it is of course in fantastic condition and is more than ready to be enjoyed by the next lucky owner.

The History and Paperwork

  • Originally designated for the Spanish market
  • Just 1 UK owner
  • Only 582 miles covered
  • First MOT due January 2024
  • V5C document present
  • Handbooks & service booklet included

Produced in 2020, this Norton was one of the few examples originally designated for the Spanish market. The bike proved difficult to sell in Spain and was then returned to the UK by Potteries Motorcycles and Scooters, who reportedly bought the leftover Spanish stock.

The bike was then acquired by the current keeper and has since been dry stored as part of a collection.

As shown by the odometer, the bike has covered very few miles throughout its time on the road, seldom venturing out unless for sunny rides out. As the included paperwork will reflect, the bike has received its first service at 567 miles and has required nothing since.

Also included alongside the servicing invoice, are the original purchase documents, V5C document, and the original Norton backpack, complete with the service booklet.

The Exterior

  • Titanium Grey finish
  • Classic styling cues
  • Fantastic condition

A glance at the styling of this 961 will definitely bring back memories of earlier classic Commando models and is a welcome design on today’s roads.

The Titanium Grey finish contrasts beautifully with the gold Ohlins units and black detailing to provide a very sleek, modern aesthetic.

As the bike has covered so few miles, it should come as no surprise that the bike is said to be in near-new condition. The invoice for the bike’s first service does note minor damage to the near side crank casing and exhaust, which is evident in the included images.

That being said, you’re unlikely to notice this unless with very close inspection, and the overall finish is hardly impacted.

The Mechanics

  • 961cc
  • Ohlins suspension
  • Brembo brakes
  • Serviced at 567 miles
  • Excellent running order
  • Healthy power delivery

In order to remain a very usable bike on today’s roads, the 961 Commando is packed with modern features and comforts, along with the desirable Ohlins suspension and dual Brembo disc brakes. If you’re looking for classic styling cues with modern rideability, the 961 is a fantastic candidate.

Buyers will be pleased to know that this example starts up right away and performs without a single known fault.

Albeit unsurprising given the mileage covered, the bike has required only one service throughout its time on the road and requires nothing to be further enjoyed.

Summary

The Commando 961 offers enthusiasts an excellent opportunity to enjoy retro styling cues, with all of the modern touches you could ask for.

With rather few produced, it’s also quite a rare bike, and would perhaps make a unique investment opportunity moving forward.

This particular example is one of the later models produced, and has only covered 582 miles with just one recorded UK owner.

As you would expect, the bike is in fantastic condition and is now more than ready to be enjoyed by the next lucky owner.
