The Appeal
After the long-lived R107, onlookers would have been forgiven for wondering how Mercedes-Benz could top it. The R129 showed how. Sporting familiar high levels of engineering but with handsome modern styling and advanced technology, particularly around safety, the new car was a crowning achievement.
Top of the tree was the SL500, the quad cam V8 offering performance to match the prodigious levels of luxury. This was a car as at home pootling locally or heading, at speed, for warmer continental shores.
The sheer usability of the R129 makes low mileage, well cared for examples like this a rare and delightful find. It has always lived in South Wales, most recently with a classic car restorer who comprehensively recommissioned it.
The sparing use is backed by full service history and is obvious from the condition. Finished in appropriate Signal Red with a well kept beige leather interior, this is a great example of a perennially popular convertible.
