The Appeal
We've all heard of "that difficult second album", but it's safe to say that the Mk2 Volkswagen Golf was a worthy successor to Giugiaro's original. Well-preserved, original examples are becoming increasingly difficult to find.
The GL 4+E 1.8 variant, with its larger-capacity engine and generous specification, represents a particularly appealing proposition for the discerning enthusiast.
This 1991 example has been in the same ownership since February 1996, a remarkable tenure of some 30 years. The car was the current keeper's late wife's, and it has been garaged since 2002, resulting in very gentle use over the past two decades. Showing 31,325 miles on the odometer, the vendor reports that the car remains completely original A handful of minor cosmetic blemishes are noted, but this is otherwise a well-kept survivor that presents beautifully for its age.fd824063-8f1a-4022-bb24-2a148ac1e05d.webp271.07 KB

✓ We want a smooth transaction just as much as you do and as such we run all UK-registered cars and motorbikes for sale on Car & Classic through an online HPI check to verify that they show no insurance database markers for damage or theft, and have no finance owing, allowing you to bid with confidence.
✓ We also check whether vehicles are recorded as being written off as part of an insurance total loss claim at the time an advert is placed on Car & Classic and we helpfully provide write-off category labels (Cat C/D/S/N) for your assistance. However, the presence or absence of a label does not guarantee the vehicle’s status and it is always worthwhile carrying out your own full vehicle history check before making an offer on a vehicle.
✓ Buyers are responsible for vehicle collection
or delivery. Importing vehicles may result in additional customs duties and import taxes so it's worth checking beforehand. It is the bidders responsibility to confirm import eligibility prior to purchase.
