The Appeal
The Volkswagen Bora was VW's more refined, saloon-bodied alternative to the ubiquitous Golf Mk4. With stiffer suspension for improved body control and a distinct front-end design, it was pitched as a "mini-Passat", offering grown-up VW quality in a compact package. Early examples like this 1999 model are now becoming increasingly scarce on UK roads, making survivors all the more noteworthy.
This Bora 1.6S is finished in Bright Green Pearl over a grey fabric interior with patterned seat inserts. Powered by the 1.6-litre petrol engine producing around 100bhp and mated to a five-speed manual gearbox, it has covered just 42,842 miles from new with only one former registered keeper. There are records of six services from the delivery inspection in 1999 through to 2010, and a collection of invoices showing evidence of more recent maintenance.
The car holds an advisory-free MOT valid until March 2027, and is accompanied by its V5C and owner's manuals. For those seeking a usable modern classic from Wolfsburg with a reassuring history, this Bora warrants a closer look.
