Throughout its years in the World Rally Championship, the Lancer competed against both Group A and WRC-spec cars. It's worth noting that Mitsubishi used the Evo 6 in Group A specification until the end of its career. Despite this, Tommi Makinen continued to win titles, building both his own and the Lancer's legacy.
Key changes for the TME included a more responsive turbocharger using a titanium impeller, which resulted in maximum torque being achieved at lower engine speeds, by 250 rpm to be precise. A quicker steering rack, a modified exhaust system, a new engine control unit, reinforced transfer case components, a redesigned front bumper for improved cooling, and 17-inch white Enkei rims, along with printed Recaro seats.
