The Appeal
Carlo Abarth’s 850 TC was the virtual definition of a giant killer. Based on the humble 600D, lightened and fitted with a bigger motor, it embarrassed much larger and more powerful competition on the track. It proved its worth early on by nabbing a 1-2-3 win at the 1961 500km Nurburgring.
This pretty car was built by the previous keeper as a homage to all of that. It is based on a 1972 600L and features a 767cc engine and various mechanical upgrades. It is in such good condition in the photos because once it was completed, the collector who built it kept it on display in his living room.
The vendor acquired it from this collection. Since purchase, he has arranged a full inspection of the cosmetics and mechanicals. It has also been fully serviced. He tells us that it is ready for technical inspection at the buyer’s leisure.
A selection of original parts accompanies the car, and duty and taxes have been paid, with UK registration pending.
The sound the car makes is phenomenal, and the burbles from the gasoline’s afterburn really make for an incredible experience inside the car. It’s a pleasure to drive, both for the driver and for the passengers. The car is photogenic, wherever you park it, people come over to chat and/or take pictures.
