The Appeal

The Jaguar XJ40 was a landmark model for the marque, replacing the beloved Series III with a thoroughly modern design while retaining the refinement and luxury expected of a Jaguar saloon. Its smooth inline-six engine and supple ride have earned it a growing following among classic Jaguar enthusiasts, and well-sorted examples are increasingly sought after.

This particular Sovereign XJ40 carries notable provenance, having originally owned by Earl Spencer, Princess Diana's father. Acquired by the current owner in 2023, it has since benefited from a service and considerable mechanical attention, we are told. The vendor reports that it starts and runs very well. Inside, the interior has been restored according to the vendor, who states it is in fine condition. The exterior does require some cosmetic attention, with paint bubbling and some rust noted. This is a mechanically sorted, historically significant XJ40 that needs only exterior TLC to bring it to its full potential.
