1926 Rally Grand Sport Type S Spécial
One of only three surviving examples, this 1926 Rally Grand Sport Type S Spécial represents the height of French sporting design in the inter-war years. Supplied new to Archibald “Boy” Maconochie, heir to the Maconochie preserved foods empire, the car was actively campaigned in university speed trials before disappearing for decades.
Discovered in 2018 in derelict condition, it underwent a meticulous seven-year restoration by David Foster, with the razor-edged body and mechanical components rebuilt to period specification. Every element — from the CIME 1, 098cc engine to the hand-brushed snow-white finish — was restored with accuracy and mechanical integrity in mind.
Presented at the 2025 Hampton Court Palace Concours, the Rally drew widespread admiration for its craftsmanship and authenticity. Today, it stands as a fully functional and historically faithful example of this rare French marque — a true reflection of 1920s performance ingenuity.
