The Appeal
A Norton special with almost all of the engineering work completed for you, what’s not to like.
Girder forks & a rigid back end, but fitted with more modern sized wheels and decent up to date tyres but still looking, in proportion and could’ve been built in the Norton factory.
It’ll keep up with modern traffic, should handle well on this tyre & wheel combination and a reasonable front brake too.
Definitely one to take out of the garage and ride, just for the pleasure of riding.

This Norton has been built up from parts by the vendor and therefore there is no previous history available.
The Exterior
Finished in silver, black & polished alloy, this Norton certainly stands out.
The frame dated from the late ‘30s / early ‘40s was a new old stock open bottomed Norton 16H and is now fitted with 1946 Norton Model 18 girder forks.
Wheels are both Norton Dominator hubs, with a 19” front & 16” rear , chrome rims fitted with Avon Road Rider tyres.
The petrol tank is one of the nicest Norton tanks from a Model 7 and has been fully refurbished inc chrome work.
Mudguards are both polished alloy and certainly compliment the chrome tank. There’s an 8” headlight up front and a period rear light & number mounting, a black correct for frame toolbox and bare oil tank.
Due to ill health, the owner hasn’t got around to stripping the bike back down for painting etc , but it’s been tested for a few miles on the road and we’re told rides extremely well, only the wiring needs completing.
The Mechanics
The vendor tells that he’s not sure of the engine’s history, when building this special, he had a number of ES2 engines in stock and he just picked the cleanest and best looking one which started first kick once installation was completed.
A later alternator engine was chosen for the reliability of the electrics and the chance for good lights.

Ignition is via a new BTH self-generating magneto.
A 12-mile test ride was carried out and he says that the engine performed well and was mechanically very quiet. The upright 4-speed Norton gearbox was re-furbished before fitting. Exhaust is a new Brooklands type.
Summary
A well built and great looking special which could easily come out of the Norton factory in period.
Use as is or strip down for painting, maybe ride all summer & refurbish over the winter months, it certainly looks to be up to the job.
The electrics could wait for a while, just ride in the daylight hours until such time as these could be completed . Ride it, show it , enjoy it !
