The Appeal
For 1950s families seeking a little extra from their motoring, there was Ford’s luxurious Mercury brand. The Montclair sat above the Monterey in the line up, a full size sedan with evocative fastback coupe styling and a healthy drizzle of chrome. In short, these are very stylish four seater ‘50s American saloons.
This 1956 Montclair is unusual in having been Belgian-registered since 1961. Finished in smart two-tone cream and black, a theme that continues to the interior, it is a very original and well kept example with a gentle patina of age. Beneath the bonnet the vendor tells us lies a 4.8L V8, which appears to be a Mercury engine from the cam covers.
