The Appeal
The enduring appeal of Jaguar’s original ‘super saloon’ explains why Beacham exists. The New Zealand firm enables owners to enjoy the car’s classic charm, but with a huge choice of sympathetic improvements to suit modern driving.
Greg Beacham has confirmed that this 1960 3.8L car was one of his 'first builds', undertaken in the mid-1990s. Work included fitting an XJC automatic gearbox, replacing the original factory unit, along with comfort features like air conditioning, power steering and also improved cooling for better reliability. It is a really pretty car in Gunmetal Grey metallic, one of the most popular colours for these cars, complemented by a lovely Caramel leather interior. Smart chrome wires and slim Coombs-style rear arches add to the strong aesthetics.
The Jaguar Daimler Heritage Trust (JDHT) certificate confirms that this factory LHD 3.8L car was built in early 1960. It arrived in the UK in 2015 and with the current keeper in 2018. Since purchase we’re told that he has expended considerable sums on the car’s maintenance and improvement. We’ve listed the work below - it includes regular servicing, including carburettors and timing, plus refurbishing the interior wood. The work includes new carpets, a period DAB radio and speaker, plus rewiring, and a steering system overhaul. The vendor has even spent considerable time collecting the components of the original factory tool kit.
If your interests lie in using and enjoying your Mk2, perhaps on an organised classic tour, then this well-kept Mk2 feels like the best of all worlds: classic looks, improved reliability, Beacham exclusivity and some modern conveniences like air conditioning and a DAB radio.
The vendor says:
“This is a rare opportunity to acquire an increasingly rare early Beacham Mk2 Jaguar. The car just shouts out in the way that really good Mk2’s do - but in a more interesting, more refined way. It’s a fantastic motorway cruiser that will very easily keep up with modern traffic.”
