The Appeal
Siata - Società Italiana Applicazione Trasformazioni Automobilistiche - were founded in 1926 by amateur race car driver Giorgio Ambrosini. They kicked off tuning up Fiat components, but soon went into production proper - rapidly climbing into the market's good graces for the elegant and often extravagant cars offered by its charismatic catalogue.
The Fiat-Siata 1500 TS coupé is one of the more unusual projects penned by Siata, informed by their ongoing, happy relationship with Fiat. Penned by the legendary Giovanni Michelotti, the 1500 TS coupé married Fiat's proven mechanicals with bespoke bodywork of real distinction, aimed squarely at the discerning sports motorist. Today, these cars are seldom seen and keenly sought after.
This example was first registered in Italy on 16th January 1965 and benefits from a documented ownership history spanning three private registered keepers before it entered the collector market. Charming period details abound: the original Siata-branded instruments remain in place, and the door-mounted ashtrays speak to the car's premium positioning.Fiat-Siata 1500 TS (4) Giuliano Fazi.JPG828.67 KB

A walk around the 1500 TS drinks in a very beautiful car. Subtley curvaceous, sophisticated and full of pure '60s glamour, it's the sort of magic you'd expect from Michelotti, and sits far closer to the likes of Ferrari or Alfa Romeo than it does a Fiat product. It's of little wonder they've become so celebrated - it's a fabulous car from top to tyres.
This example underwent an 'average' respray some years ago, but the colour matches the very nicely and does look in good overall fettle. The bodywork is well-presented, and the removal of the bumpers has left a very sporty appearance that's bound to turn plenty of heads, whether on display or on the road.
In the cabin, the upholstery is clean and well-presented, the instruments are proudly on display, and the dash is well-kept. While the rev counter requires attention and the radio may not be the original unit the car came with, it's still a very handsome cabin that's ready and waiting for its lucky new owner. The performance of the Fiat 1500 was already perky, but by shaving off around 100kg with its fibreglass body has meant that the Siata 1500 TS is an altogether much more high-octane drive, aided only further by its streamlined nature. This example has been freshly serviced and is reported to be in fine working order.
It's a vanishingly rare classic, and once the engine is brought to life and the car is in your hands, will no doubt prove a very, very rewarding one.
