The Appeal
The Mk X, later known as the 420G, was Jaguar’s tilt at the lucrative American market. The longest and widest Jaguar ever built, it was intended to give long-distance freeway drivers a taste of the grace, space and pace that only a Coventry Cat could properly deliver.
Sales didn’t quite match expectations, which makes any survivor a rare machine these days. And, as this car shows, well worth seeking out because these cars are one of William Lyons’s most stylish creations. Beyond the sculptural bodywork you get a lovely leather and wood-lined cabin.
This car’s chassis number indicates it was one of the very first 420Gs built. It carries all of the later car’s updated including side repeaters, chrome running strips and split front grille. It spent its life in the USA and carries American title, but is now located in Europe.
Beautifully presented in burgundy metallic with a black leather cabin, it is a well preserved car with a gentle patina of extra character.
