Highlights
- Full restoration of the E9
- Classic Chamonix White paint with blue velvet interior
- Careful presentation, with side decals and period-correct wheels
The Appeal
With its imposing front spoiler, side decals, Chamonix White paint and those characteristically French yellow headlights, this 1974 E9 captures the spirit of the impressive “Batmobiles” that caused a stir when it first left the factory. These features only underline what is widely considered to be one of Wilhelm Hofmeister’s finest designs.
Everything is underpinned by a full restoration carried out to a very high standard, as the photographs clearly show. Suspension and braking components have been replaced, while the car also appears to have benefited from a complete repaint. This is a very smart late example of the 3.0 CS, powered by the 180 hp straight-six.
The cabin is just as appealing, with its elegant blue velvet upholstery and a period three-spoke steering wheel with a wooden rim. The stated 95,000 km would appear to be authentic, although this hasn’t been verified. The car is equipped with a three-speed automatic gearbox.
Here’s a great opportunity to enjoy the already considerable efforts and investment made to restore and present one of the most appealing E9 examples we’ve seen in a long time.
