The Appeal

Britain gets more than its fair share of adverse weather which can unfortunately be very hard on classic cars. Factory rust-proofing left a great deal to be desired fifty years ago so many cars would barely last one winter on our salted roads before developing some quite worrying corrosion. That’s why you’re sure to get our attention by uttering the words “Arizona import”. It’s the second driest State in America so cars simply don’t rust.
In the case of this remarkably early G-Series Porsche 911S 911 Targa, the Arizonan climate has paid dividends. Seldom does such a well-preserved 911 of this vintage emerge, let alone one that remains totally untouched with not a modification in sight. It’s an entirely original example, right down to its sun-bleached Gemini Blue paintwork. We understand that its matching numbers 2.7-litre flat-six was rebuilt sometime before import and the vendor reports that the car continues to drive very well indeed.
This truly is an unmissable opportunity, the likes of which may never be seen again.

The History and Paperwork

  • One of the first G-Series cars, the first comprehensive re-design of the 911 
  • First UK-registered in December 2022
  • MOT valid until 30th May 2024 - although exempt
  • Remains entirely original and unrestored
  • The vendor assures us both the engine and gearbox are confirmed numbers matching
  • UK V5C present
  • Arizona licence plate still present
  • 48,714 miles indicated

The Condition

  • Amongst the first 911s featuring impact bumpers besides a wealth of other updates
  • Four-seat Targa “Saftey Cabriolet” variant with a removable roof section still in very good condition
  • The bodyshell reportedly remains free from any welding or replacement panels
  • The vendor assures us that the shell is entirely free from any structural corrosion
  • The original floor pans present immensely well
  • Faded original Gemini Blue paintwork
  • The period-correct Fuchs alloys present very well indeed and are shod with Continental tyres
  • Barely any notable wear to the black upholstery
  • An Alpine DIN stereo has been fitted at some point
  • We understand that the instruments and switchgear all function correctly
The condition of this 911S is quite remarkable. Obviously, the Arizona sun has significantly faded the near-fifty-year-old Gemini Blue paintwork and yet, it does appear to have spared the interior from any notable UV damage. 
It’s incredibly rare to find such a solid original ‘70s 911 and we couldn’t see any corrosion whatsoever. The vendor shows us the original floor pans, which look in exceptional order for their age. Some may wish to restore the car cosmetically and indeed this would be an excellent starting point. That said, they’re only original once, and you could easily enjoy this Porsche exactly as it is.

The Mechanics 

  • 2.7-litre air-cooled NA flat-six
  • Five-speed manual gearbox
  • The vendor was informed that the engine was rebuilt prior to the car leaving the US
  • We’re told that it starts readily, runs well and drives exactly as it should
  • No apparent mechanical faults, with strong performance and a lack of untoward noises
If the proof of the pudding is in the eating, then the true measure of a car is in the driving and we’re pleased to report that from behind the wheel, this Porsche seems very healthy. 
While details of the service history are scant, we understand that this car’s engine was rebuilt prior to import and it certainly drives very well according to the vendor. The current MOT identifies a small oil leak and slight play in the offside rear wheel bearing - although neither of these would be too taxing to sort.
