The Appeal
If you wanted an economic, nimble commercial wagon back in the day, chances are this was just the ticket. The Mini Van was even more austere than its city-car cousin, eliminating the niceties of chromework in favour of sheer versatility - that rear bay was impressive for such a small wheelbase, and set the van up as a must-have for small enterprises, grocers' shops and sole traders.
Like its people-pleasing classmate, of course, it saw huge success internationally, and many Mini Vans were built in South Africa. Years later, these have proven very desirable classics, benefiting from their dry home country and often proving to be excellent candidates for restoration.
This '76 van is one of these, arriving in the UK in 2020 and having undergone an extensive overhaul, respray and rebuild.
