The Appeal
TVR remains one of Britain’s most distinctive sports car manufacturers, with its models renowned for combining lightweight construction, sonorous engines and an uncompromising focus on driving enjoyment. Replacing both the Vixen and Tuscan in 1972, the M-series remained in production until 1979 and was offered in a number of forms, including the Taimar, which combined the 3000M’s striking styling and performance with the added practicality of a rear-opening hatchback.
True to TVR tradition, low weight played a central role in the driving experience, and the Taimar tipped the scales at little more than a tonne. Combined with Ford’s eager naturally aspirated Essex V6, the result was a compact and entertaining sports car with effortless performance and a wonderfully characterful soundtrack.
Just 395 naturally aspirated Taimars rolled out of the Blackpool factory between 1976 and 1979, with significantly fewer likely to remain on UK roads today, making this example an increasingly rare sight. Whether enjoyed on owners’ club rallies, spirited weekend drives or trips to classic car shows and events, it promises to attract plenty of attention while rewarding its next keeper with the sharp handling and agility for which TVR became so well known.
