The 70s were a rough time for all of Europe's motor industry. Chrysler had taken over Rootes Group and were now floundering, so when British Leyland were semi-nationalised, they demanded aid from the state too. The British government agreed, presenting an investment pack for a small economic car in the same vein as the Volkswagen Golf. 

The Chrysler Sunbeam was the result. The motoring press were impressed, and when Chrysler decided to pull the plug, PSA took over and kept the car going unabated until 1981. Not a long life - but a very respectable one at a time when it seemed like every marque in Europe was dropping like a stone. 

While requiring cosmetic attention, this fine '79 car offers a good opportunity for enthusiasts looking for an original-condition project car with sound mechanical foundations.
