The Appeal
The R107 is a perennial of the classic scene because it’s an enthusiast roadster without obvious downsides. Stylish, well-built, reliable, comfortable and practical, it’s the character car you can simply jump in and enjoy.
All of which may explain why the current keeper of this 280SL has hung onto it for 12 years. Smartly presented in Signal Red, with a matching hard top, a black roof and a beige cabin, it is a very tidy example that has been reserved for dry summer use and stored inside during the winter. As a 280SL, it has decent power on tap, but is real-world economical.
It is a mark of the seller’s approach that the car comes with a voluntary MOT, although it is no longer a legal requirement on a car of this age. The test runs to February 2027.
The vendor says:
“The car comes into its element on summer days, whether on long-distance drives or countryside jaunts to the pub. We have made trips to the French countryside with luggage and the dog, and the car performs beautifully, both in terms of comfort and reliability. It handles well on winding roads too. The paintwork pops in the sun and is a real head turner.”
