The Appeal
Mercedes resisted the idea of an estate car for years, deeming it too downmarket for its lauded image. But with Volvo leading the way, it finally jumped in with the S123 ‘Tourismus und Transport’ model and, in the process, invented the idea of the estate car as a posh status symbol.
Like any W123 variant, the ‘T’ cars are highly sought after these days. As working vehicles, they tend to have led hard lives, but this fabulous 1985 200T seems to be the exception. In the same family since 1986, it is a low-mileage car that is well-preserved. The beige paintwork and ultra-hardwearing red fabric interior look like those of a car barely a quarter its age.
The car is said to have always been stored in a heated garage and to have been well maintained. It is now usefully MOT and tax exempt, but there is a useful recent MOT test to add transparency for buyers. This practical wagon would make a great show car but could equally serve as a distinctive daily driver.
The vendor says:
“Runs and drives very nicely, it's been a pleasure owning this car and sadly for sale due to age of driver.”

✓ We also check whether vehicles are recorded as being written off as part of an insurance total loss claim at the time an advert is placed on Car & Classic and we helpfully provide write-off category labels (Cat C/D/S/N) for your assistance. However, the presence or absence of a label does not guarantee the vehicle’s status and it is always worthwhile carrying out your own full vehicle history check before making an offer on a vehicle.
