The Appeal

Some cars are special for what they are and some are special because of their story. And just occasionally, a car can be special for both.

Take this BMW E30 as an example. Already one of the most iconic cars of its era, the E30 is an enduring legend. But this one is very special indeed. It was bought by its most recent keeper in 2000 with just 15,000 miles on the clock. He used it for a few months in and around London, then took on a work contract in the USA. He hasn’t been home since, and the BMW sat in a private garage in Middlesex until a couple of months ago when it was found and recommissioned.

As far as enduring designs go, the BMW E30 3-Series has to be up there among the elite. Stylish and desirable no matter what the body style, the agonisingly pretty E30 is one of the Bavarian firm’s most recognisable icons, as well as an increasing popular choice of classic.

Introduced in 1983 as the replacement for the E21 3-Series, the new model was wider, squarer and perfectly proportioned. It was a triumph of simplicity over excess and a wonderful piece of automotive styling, which has widely (and deservedly) become regarded as one of BMW’s all-time classics.

The difficulty today, though, is finding a good one and this one is categorically as good as you’ll find. A completely unmolested and preserved example, it has been recommissioned by the vendor and is a superb car, presented in beautifully preserved and totally unrestored condition. There won’t be another quite like it…
