• A hard to find G60 version of the well respected Corrado

The Volkswagen Corrado is a front engine, front wheel drive coupe produced by Volkswagen from 1988 to 1995. The Corrado was conceived as an up-market Scirocco and built on the MK2 Golf platform. The Corrado eventually replaced the Scirocco entirely in 1992. 

The upmarket features of the Corrado included its flush mounted windows and active rear spoiler which either raises automatically or can be controlled by the driver.

The G60 model, offered here, features a 1.8L in-line four mated to a scroll supercharger delivering a very competitive 158bhp. The “G” refers to the so called “G Lader” supercharger used, the internals of which resemble the letter G.

The current owner has owned this car for a little under 10 years, long having had a desire to own the flagship of the Corrado range. He acquired the car as a project car and this year has been able to get the car extensively re-worked by German classic specialists, UKD Auto of Bristol.

UKD Auto have undertaken a substantial program of maintenance and improvements which are fully detailed in our photographic package and amount to around £4,500 worth of work.

The owner is now reluctantly looking to find an enthusiastic new owner for the G60 due to health issues that prevent him from being able to fully enjoy this 90’s hero car. 

As you will see from our photographic package, there is a significant archive of paperwork to accompany this car. There is the current V5, of course. There is then a full file of invoices from UKD Auto listing the work undertaken by them earlier this year.

There is also a multi-page car health check undertaken by UKD Auto which gives a very useful report on the key aspects of the car.

The interior is in original condition with the black leather upholstery being in a good condition for the age of the car. Although the leather exhibits some minor areas of wear, we feel this to be appropriate for the age and mileage of the car.

The grey carpets appear to be original and would benefit from a deep clean and some minor attention in places.

The dash is mainly original and in good condition, as is the sporty, original fit leather steering wheel. The gear knob appears to be an after-market addition. The car features an aftermarket Alpine / Kenwood stereo system with a boot mounted Kenwood sub-woofer and amplifier.

The bodywork of the G60 seems to be in good solid condition with no significant dents apparent. The paintwork is in need of attention with a number of noticeable scratches, areas of lacquer breakdown and lack of lustre being obvious. Please see our photographic package for examples.

We noted a broken front driving light lens and an area of surface corrosion under the rear spoiler which we have captured in our photographs. It is our opinion that it wouldn’t be too difficult to give this car some cosmetic attention that would improve its overall appearance significantly.

The BBS style split-rims and Falken 195/50/R15 tyres were fitted new, earlier this year when the car was with UKD Auto.

You will see that this G60 has undergone a significant amount of mechanical attention during 2021. Our photographic package gives details of the invoices covering this work.

This work includes some noteworthy entries including the replacement of timing belt and water pump, a Jabba Sport renovation of the Supercharger to a stage 4 specification and the fitments of new alloys, tyres and coil-over suspension. 

Given this the mechanical condition of this G60 appears excellent and everything is reported to be working as it should, right down to the active-aero rear spoiler.

With less than 200 Corrado G60’s remaining on the UK roads today, this can be genuinely described as a rare Volkswagen. G60’s with their original supercharged engine are rarer still so already this fast VW is a hard to find car and who knows when the next one will come available.

Add to that the fact that this car has been the subject of a full mechanical schedule of works costing in excess of £4.5K then you can be confident that this rare 90’s German classic has the potential to make great motoring memories for many years to come.
