THE APPEAL
The fourth generation of the Mercedes SL, the R 129 marketed from 1990 to 2001, presented revolutionary stylistic and technological innovations, which made it one of the most significant and coveted cars of the nineties.
Heir to the highly appreciated SL R107, the R129, which obtained the Car Design Award in 1990, displayed a cutting-edge design by Bruno Sacco, with modern lines of great sobriety and composure, inspired by other contemporary Mercedes-Benz models but aimed towards the future.
The shapely bodywork presents all the characteristics of a high-level grand tourer, with a long bonnet, a compact two-seater cockpit and a short tail, which create a dynamic and sporty, but also very elegant look.
Extremely comfortable and suitable for long journeys, the R129 was equipped with very advanced technological solutions, such as the automatic roll-bar which raises in just 0.3 seconds, energy-absorbing seats with integrated seat belts and a chassis that exceeded the highest standards of resistance in crash tests.
The refined interiors, characterized by impeccable construction quality, were equipped with the most advanced technology and realized with the best and most durable materials and guaranteed a level of comfort decidedly superior to the other sports cars of the time.
To make the open-air driving experience more pleasant and carefree, the folding top automatically opens and closes in less than 30 seconds and the a wind deflector device was introduced for the first time, which allows to drive with the open roof without creating turbulence in the passenger compartment and which has since been adopted throughout the industry.
Imported into Italy from Spain, this SL is in very nice shape, with its shiny, rare and extremely attractive original metallic green paint covering an intact and flawless bodywork.
The impressive interior, completely upholstered in black leather, is well-equipped and in very good condition.
The efficient mechanics have always been scrupulously maintained and have received a thorough overhaul.

Sold new in Spain, this 500 SL was imported into Italy in 2020.
It is equipped with its original Spanish documents and its use and maintenance manuals.
Regularly serviced, it is accompanied by numerous invoices relating to the maintenance received over the years in Spain and Italy.
In 2018 the water pump and the fuel pump were replaced.
In 2021, extensive maintenance included, among other things, the replacement of the automatic transmission lever bush, spark plugs, boot shock absorbers, under bonnet insulation, rear brake discs and all disc pads.
The electrical system has been overhauled, paying particular attention to the convertible top circuit, which is in perfect working order.
In the passenger compartment, the buttons and the gear lever gasket have been replaced.

Radically different from its R107 ancestor, the SL R129 has retained its classic pure two-seater roadster configuration with a canvas top and the choice of six-cylinder and V8 engines, offering a highly modern and elegant design, high-quality mechanics and cutting-edge technological contents.
One of the latest Mercedes-Benz models developed without too much regard for costs, the SL was quite expensive but offered far superior quality and more comprehensive specifications compared to the competition.
