The Appeal
Introduced as the premiere part of Mercedes-Benz' product range, the new CL-Class (Coupé Luxusklasse) was exactly as it said on the tin - a coupe that was loaded with comfort and luxury. This was a developing era of Mercedes-Benz when they were seeking top-notch tech, while still being dedicated to build quality - indeed, many consider the '90s the last authentic bastion of those old ideals.
Needless to say, the C140 was a grand success. This was a truly aspirational car, classy to its core, and carried a certain analogue nature to its bodywork that modern cars simply can't compare to. Rather than smooth and sloping, it was sharp-featured and blunt-nosed. To this day, that silhouette is unequivocally Mercedes-Benz.
