The Appeal
Produced as a homage to the iconic McLaren M6GT - described by McLaren themselves as “the genesis for all McLaren road cars”.
The M6GT was a closed-cockpit sports car built for the 24 Hours of Le Mans with only few prototypes registered for the road by McLaren - including one that Bruce McLaren himself used as his daily.
This car will certainly turn heads wherever it goes - with its vintage McLaren race livery, butterfly doors and epic V8 soundtrack, this is a real-life racer for the road.
With only 15 of these UVA homages having been built, the chances of turning up to a classic car show in the same vehicle as someone else are slim to say the least…

The interior is trimmed in cream leather with black inserts, and is contrasted with grey carpeting. Presented in original, unrestored condition, the interior is complete and intact, recently benefiting from a thorough detail.
In regards to the driving position, it’s a classic race car, with very low hip-point, figure-hugging seats and a “feet forward” driving position.
Presenting in good overall condition externally, the car wears a replica of the 1998 McLaren F1 livery.
As an unrestored 24 year old replica, it does wear its age on its sleeve, with a few scratches, chips and minor blemishes in the fibreglass shell. But there’s nothing we would be overly concerned about.
The butterfly doors and rear clamshell give a real motorsport vibe and certainly offer a great way to make an entrance. Underneath the space-frame chassis looks to be in very good condition and there is only light surface corrosion in places.
Sitting on classic 70s style 5-spoke race alloys and wearing period BF Goodrich tyres, it looks every inch the classic LeMans racer.
Powered by the ubiquitous Rover V8, here more than a little tuned up, this LeMans replica certainly makes all the right noises and offers great performance.
With a tactile manual transmission and all that power delivered to the rear wheels, it offers a genuine vintage racer experience.
As with the interior and exterior, the powertrain wears its years honestly and is unrestored. We’re assured by the owner that everything works as it should, and with a little time and attention the engine bay would soon be back to looking its best.
Running the Rover V8 makes is a great car to use on a regular basis too - it’s a reliable and known quantity with parts and expertise readily and widely available.
How often does the chance come along to buy a vintage LeMans racer?
Well, almost never to be honest. But this is pretty much as close as you can get.
An immensely rare car, being one of just 15 kits produced, this McLaren M6GT replica is a real head-turner and the kind of vehicle that would take pride of place in any car collection.
Currently in original, unrestored condition, it’s in need of a little love inside and out. But once that’s done, you’ll have one of the rarest cars in the world and something that has genuine show-winning potential.
Certainly, it’s a perfect car for the Goodwood Revival.
