The Appeal
The R129 was the last of a particular type of Mercedes-Benz, one where the engineering team was fully in control. The Teutonic build quality and those crips Sacco lines help explain why these care so in demand today.
That they were also available with the rumbling 5L V8, as here, is key to their appeal. this effortless powerplant suits the R129's cossetting, relaxed demeanour. This is a car that makes short work of any journey, long or short.
The current keeper of this car spent a long time finding the right one. It was time well spent because it is a really nice example in great condition with low mileage for the year. Alongside the restrained Obsidian Black and grey leather combination it features the rare and desirable Panoramic hard top, later alloys and the facelift improvements
It has been very well maintained throughout its life. The history file shows full service history up to 93,000 miles in 2024, with few miles covered since. In April 2025 the roof hydraulics were fully checked and serviced.
Sold with the reassurance of a fresh 12 months MOT, this is one of the nicest SL500s we've seen in a long while.
The vendor says:
"Only for sale because I am relocating to France. It took me a couple of years to find one as good as this one, I saw a good few frogs before I found this princess! I have seen what’s out there and this is one of the best."
