If you want to find the best way of moving your beloved classic car around, or you want to ferry other people's cars, then a car trailer is an absolute must. PRG is synonymous with trailers and transporters and has an envious reputation for quality. This one, in particular, is a 4.26-metre twin-axle version built in 2001 that has had a full cover fitted professionally allowing the safe transportation of the most valuable classic cars.

Soon after purchase, the trailer was adapted by Mike Gardner of GT Motorsport and Trailers in Nottinghamshire, at a cost of around £2640 on top of the original purchase price from PRG. It has been used sparingly to transport a trials car and for a few trips into Europe with a vintage classic. It tows well and has benefitted from regular servicing by PRG in Cheshire.

The cover consists of a weatherproof skin over a steel frame and has side openings on both sides as well as a full-width aperture to the rear. There’s an extra small access built into the front at the request of the owner. All openings have robust fully working zips and appear to be very water-resistant.

The frame is sturdy and gives a very accommodating roof height. Both internally and externally the cover appears to be free of any damage and all tie-down eyelets are in good order. The trailer itself also appears in very good order. There are no obvious signs of damage and it is clear that it has been recently maintained as there are new brake cables and linkages clearly visible. The jockey wheel is working as it should and has a good, undamaged tyre. The mechanical handbrake works well and the safety brake cable is securely attached.

All the wheels are in very good order and are shod in tyres which have plenty of tread. The rear light clusters are clean bright and free from damage, although not tested. The only real sign of use to the exterior are some minor scuffs to the moulded mudguards.

Transporting valuable cars can be a tricky business and although the trailer alone is a sturdy and safe platform for most vehicles, keeping the load safe from stone chips and the weather is another matter. This trailer has been professionally prepared by people who know how to protect expensive cargo. It has had a lot of consideration put into its design and has many advantages over regular open trailers, as well as being used sparingly and has been looked after well since its build. Bed length without hitch is 4.27m x 2m.
