The Appeal

The R230 was a dream for enthusiasts of Mercedes-Benz’ long-lived SL. No more switching between hard and soft tops, no faffing about storing the former while using the latter. Instead, the R230 is a car for all weathers thanks to its clever folding hard top.

To that versatile mix, this car adds the undoubted appeal of a 5.5L 390bhp V8. Perfect, then, for blasting down to the South of France or perhaps Tuscany this summer. It would be well up for such a trip because it is a low mileage car that has been well cared for by its handful of keepers.

The run of regular servicing by main dealers and specialists comes right up to date. Additional work in 2024 includes over £1,000 expended on minor repairs, indicating the current keeper hasn’t cut corners. The same is true of the previous ones - we are told the car was garaged in a Carcoon-style ‘bubble.’

You can tell from the photos that this has been a cared for car. It wears its age lightly, with even the multi-spoke alloys, shod as they are with quality rubber, presenting in virtually new condition.
