The Appeal

The W251 R63 is both hard to define and, somehow, all the car you could ever need, whatever your needs are. With 503bhp on tap from its hand-built 6.2L V8 it is as brutally quick, yet it seats seven plus luggage and is as luxurious as any executive saloon. Oh, and it’s got surefooted AWD with air suspension so it handles and rides well too.

Just 200 R63 AMG 4MATIC were available worldwide and you couldn’t just walk into a Mercedes-Benz showroom and buy one, you had to wait for an invite. This RHD car, handsomely finished in black with light beige leather interior, was a sparingly used and very cossetted diplomatic car until 2020 as part of an embassy fleet. It was then put into storage for five years. That explains the very low mileage of under 34,000 miles.

It is in very good condition, the effect helped by recently refurbished AMG alloys. The service book is missing, but as a former embassy car, it seems reasonable to assume it was properly maintained, although this is not confirmed.

The vendor acquired the car earlier this year and immediately put a new MOT on it and a full service. The MOT test shows no advisories and it has covered few miles in the intervening months.

Whether you need a MPV, supercar, family car, executive express or are simply drawn to one of the rarest AMG models ever built, this very tidy R63 looks appealing.
