THE APPEAL

Since the 1960s Ford and Shelby’s partnership has provided us with powerfully fierce and fun cars. From the iconic Cobra to Mustangs and pickup trucks, Shelby has amplified Ford's products making them more agile, powerful and faster.

Revealed in 2005 Ford's 5th generation Mustang reintroduced the world to an icon, featuring styling that echoed the fastback models of the late 1960s, the car was an instant hit and sales accelerated. This success lasted a decade, with Ford revising engines and models throughout that time before the model was updated in 2015.

During this time, Ford saw the opportunity to build on their success, using the reputation and fearsome name that had helped them badge and offer performance-focused models to those who wanted that little bit more. Shelby has always had a reputation for being the ultimate, the absolute best and that fame continues to this very day.

Registered in 2013 in Florida, USA this Shelby GT500 is a ridiculous, ravaged muscle car that features a supercharged V8 sending 653bhp to the rear wheels. At the time, it was the fastest Mustang ever produced, a wild, powerful version that benefited from Shelby's mechanical and aesthetic modifications. The optional SVT performance package takes things even further, adding a Torsen limited-slip differential that aids in rear traction as well as additional cooling for the engine, transmission and differential. Launch control is also integrated, for improved off-the-line starts. SVT-designed Bilstein adjustable damping is also present, allowing the car to go from normal to sports modes at a push of a button.

There’s just something special about mad American V8s and their animalistic appeal, thanks to the SVT upgrades this GT500 is able to control its enormous power better, resulting in a better driving experience, its barbaric V8 noise and whining supercharger only adds to the lunacy however. A mad car but a hell of a lot of fun.

THE INTERIOR

An outstanding performing car can’t be without an equivalent interior and that's exactly what is presented here on this GT500. Cobra embroidered Shelby Pro Recaro Seats are without question the highlight, compelling in appearance as well as comfort. Further signs of its Shleby influence are dotted around the cabin, appealing on the steering wheel, floor mats, boot carpet and centre console. Additional reminders of its SVT limited edition package is also present, appearing on the instrument cluster and door sills. The car is very well equipped, not at all stripped back for performance focus, but sporty and lavish instead. Condition-wise, the interior is excellent throughout, with all buttons and displays performing as they should. It's a very enjoyable environment, easily enjoyable on long and short trips.

One of the biggest draws to the Mustang is its aggressive, muscular appearance and Shelby’s aesthetic additions only accentuate that. More Cobra badging, front and rear spoilers and SVT performance specification alloy wheels all contribute to the car's seductive appearance. Its stunning Performance white paint and black convertible roof are both in excellent condition, the paint benefiting from a professional machine polish and ceramic coating a couple of years prior. It's a gorgeous car, imposing, authoritative enticing, exactly how a Shelby should be. unfortunately the rear screen heating element has perished due to Florida sun.

THE MECHANICS

With Shelby's reputation for only putting their name on worthy vehicles, it's no surprise that the GT500 features ferocious performance. A supercharged, aluminium 5.8L V8 produces an incredible 662bhp and 631 pound-feet of torque, all sent to the car's rear wheels. The SVT performance package adds a Torsen limited-slip diff to help with rear traction and a launch control feature helps off-the-line performance further.

Adjustable Bilstein dampers also feature, allowing the suspension and steering to be adjusted for comfort or racing, plus additional cooling from further SVT modification is also present. Impressively, the car is even louder than the factory thanks to the addition of Borla Atak performance exhaust mufflers. It sounds incredible, especially as it accelerates up towards its top speed reported to be close to 200mph! This really is a car that performs and sounds as good as it looks.

SUMMARY

Shelby and Ford have produced another ridiculous and exciting car here, made even better thanks to its SVT anniversary performance package. Every sense is invigorated by this car, it looks incredible, sounds godly and makes you feel unstoppable. It's an incredible machine and will provide you with the kind of fun only a Shleby can.
