The Appeal
The Morgan Giles boats built in Teignmouth Devon have gained notoriety as significant historical vessels thanks to the reputation of the designer Francis Charles Morgan-Giles. A beautiful design, these 12ft rowing/motor boats were designed to be used as launches for larger craft, or for pleasure in their own right. This particular boat was commissioned in 1947 for Frank Riseley for use as a tender to his Morgan Giles yacht.
Monty comes complete with a running 4hp Stuart Turner engine and a set of oars. We believe the boat was fully restored by specialist shipwright Charlie Hussey and Jim Little for a previous owner and has remained unused since, Monty features solid teak decks, sole and engine bearers, with a teak and mahogany engine casing. It’s a fantastic looking boat in the traditional design and with a little varnishing it would make for a fantastic day boat or as a launch for a larger vessel.
The Interior
- Stern and quarter seating with central thwart provide plenty of seating

Summary
Monty is a classic Morgan Giles launch that looks as good today as it did in the 40’s. The traditional copper-fastened teak and mahogany construction combined with oak timbers and a rounded full bilge, long keel design produce a boat that’s both pleasing to the eye and beautifully stable.
