The Appeal
The Reliant Scimitar was a sports car for the practical motorist, as an estate version was available. It was built for people who wanted to enjoy the drive, and carry enough luggage to enjoy their destination when they arrive.
This Scimitar received a new engine fitted by Reliant in 1986, while also undergoing some body repairs. It has since received restoration work in 2003 and benefits from a five-speed manual gearbox.
So this Scimitar looks like it has been well cared for and enjoyed over the years. This particular example could be used as-is or gradually improved to being it back to its former glory.

- Moto-Lita wooden rimmed steering wheel, original still with the car

- The remote boot release cable needs adjustment, the vendor is looking into this

- ‘Scimitar’ branded polished sill plates
- Faux leather door cards in good condition
- The Britax glass sunroof is said to be sealed and hasn’t ever been opened by the present owner
- Central locking was fitted by a previous owner
The Exterior
- The bodywork on this Scimitar is fibreglass
- Will Sparrow body kit
- There are some hairline cracks in the body and bonnet
- Crack in the front quarter panel where it was replaced in 1986
- The external fittings in fair condition
- Electric colour-coded wing mirrors
- Wolfrace wheels look to be in good condition for their age
- Goodyear tyres said to retain good tread, but are a little aged
- The underside is said to be in good condition, although some unspecific corrosion is mentioned on the 2020 MOT certificate
The Mechanics
- 2,792cc V6 engine fitted new in 1986
- Ford Type 9 five-speed manual gearbox fitted, but the car is still registered as an automatic
- Modern fusebox with extra earths — wiring diagrams included
- Weber 38DGMS carburettor fitted by a previous owner — said to start easily
- Stainless steel exhaust and headers
- Stainless steel petrol tank
- The engine bay looks to be in good condition
- Spare wheel in engine bay
- Said to drive well, accelerate as it should do and brake in a straight line
- The vendor tells us that they have fitted new fuel lines in September 2022, and new front brake callipers, front AVO shock absorbers and springs in 2017
- Fuel gauge not working and passenger door not operating on central locking
