Numerous companies have attempted and failed to dethrone the Land Rover Defender's title of 'best four by four by far', yet none have managed to do so. The original's unique blend of all-terrain capability and robust durability has been a tough challenge to overcome. However, by the time the Defender was launched in 1990, the company had been refining this concept for more than 40 years.
First registered in September 2005, this Land Rover Defender 110 XS TD5 is a smart “top of the range” example of the long-wheelbase Defender, in desirable Tonga Green Metallic and in rare 9 seater station wagon specification. With just 2 former keepers and 83k miles from new, it boasts a full service history (last service in August 2025) and has had over £16k invested in it over the last 8 years alone, in both maintenance and some well-chosen upgrades.
Mechanically, it is equipped with the reliable 5 cylinder 2. 5 TD5 engine. In 2019, this engine received an upgrade by way of a JE Motorworks TD5 Stage 2 conversion. This included a larger intercooler, a performance ITG air filter and a remap to the engine’s ECU. This enhancement generally yields 180-190 bhp and around 300 ft/ lbs of torque, providing a significant boost compared to the standard engine's 122 bhp and 231 ft/ lbs of torque. This translates to a marked improvement in performance, while maintaining fuel economy.
Other upgrades include, tow bar and electrics, uprated sound deadening, electric hand brake conversion, a Startech sports steering wheel, Alpine Radio/ CD player with Bluetooth connectivity, USB port, upgraded interior lighting front and rear and Land Rover rubber over mats through out.
As an XS model it is highly specified from the factory, with front electric windows, heated seats and front and rear heated screens, rear door screen wiper and air conditioning.
With relatively low mileage, backed up by comprehensive service and MOT records and presented in very good overall condition inside and out, this example has also just benefitted from a comprehensive underbody preservation treatment, as part of the pre-sales preparation.
Enhanced with several choice upgrades and with highly regarded all-season usability it would make a highly versatile companion for daily driving, weekend adventures and workhorse duties alike.
