The Appeal
In the 1960s and 1970s, Mercedes-Benz achieved one success after another. Its cars were certainly beautiful and elegant, well-built and comfortable, with a distinct charm that no other car manufacturer seemed able to match. The house of the Three-Pointed Star began a long sequence of successes with the arrival of the W111 and W112 'tail' saloons, which helped the factory achieve production levels that allowed for true economies of scale, and revolutionised its production lines.
By the mid-1960s, the ornamental fins were no longer fashionable, so with the W108, Mercedes design evolved, proposing a particularly imposing and almost regal appearance, with large, light-filled passenger compartments with ample glass surfaces and a slightly lower stance, resulting in elegant and comfortable cars designed for an exclusive clientele, with lines that were both modern and understated.
Today, these extremely pleasant to drive cars are among the most charming European classics, and over the years they have acquired a patina of great charm that makes them even more fascinating and full of retro character. This particular car from 1971 looks just like this and has been owned by the same family for over fifty years.
