By the end of the 1980s, Renault was falling behind the competition and it was decided that a new sports car was needed to boost the brand's image. Designed for both road and competition, the Sport Spider was unveiled in 1996 and assembled at the Alpine plant in Dieppe. Two versions were offered: with a conventional windscreen or with an 'Aeroscreen' inspired by racing models.
This early example is fitted with the high-performance 'Aeroscreen' version and is in remarkable original condition, with just 10,000 kilometres on the clock. These vehicles are extremely rare: only 1,726 were ever produced.
