The Appeal
The Type VI was the smallest of the new pre-war Berliet models launched. It was designed to meet French automotive taxation for 7 CV vehicles and directly compete with models such as the Renault NN and Peugeot Type 172. With its more modern overhead valve (OHV) engine, which offered greater power and reliability than its rivals, plus a four-speed gearbox more advanced than the three-speed transmissions of its competitors, it had serious credentials in this particularly competitive segment.
Although a major car manufacturer, Berliet's Lyon factory concentrated primarily on commercial vehicles. This likely explains why only around 1,000 examples of this car were produced. The elegant, streamlined Torpedo bodies like this example were among the most popular.
This is a fine Type VI, with its attractive green and yellow colour scheme and carefully presented interior. It notably features an original dealer badge from the Clermont-Ferrand region.
The history file is particularly interesting and includes original manuals, vintage advertisements and a work file. It includes a 2013 invoice for €8,845, corresponding to significant restoration work on the 1,160 cc four-cylinder engine.
Elegant, practical and clearly well maintained, this Berliet represents a rare opportunity for pre-war French car enthusiasts.022.JPG13.44 MB

✓ We also verify whether vehicles are registered as written off as a result of a total loss claim at the time the listing is placed on Car & Classic and we provide write-off category labels (Cat C/D/S/N) to assist you. The presence or absence of a label does not, however, guarantee the vehicle's status and it is always worthwhile to carry out a full vehicle history check before making an offer on it.
