The Appeal
Donald Healey developed his big two seater to fulfil a big gap in the post-war sports car market. That he made what became the 3000 so utterly beautiful was perhaps a secondary thought, but it’s one ably demonstrated by this gorgeous 1960 Mk1.
Finished in Healey Blue over cream, arguably one of the prettiest combinations for these cars, it is a quality restoration with a fascinating back story. A BMIHT certificate confirms it was built in September 1960 and, to sate strong overseas demand for the new 2.9L car, quickly despatched two days later to Missouri, USA. It was then used as a race car for several years before returning to the UK in 2016. It was subsequently restored by Healey specialists Veber and then Rawles, with the work completed in 2019, just prior to the vendor acquiring it. The renovation is detailed in photos and also on a dedicated blog.
Since buying it, the seller has used it very sparingly, which has preserved the condition nicely. Inside and out, this is a beautifully prepared car that will appeal to discerning buyers.
