The Appeal
The BMW 700 Sport Coupe holds a special place in the marque's history as the first BMW production car to feature a monocoque body. Powered by a rear-mounted 696cc air-cooled flat-twin and offered with a four-speed manual gearbox, it delivered a spirited driving experience in a compact package. The model is widely credited with helping to rescue BMW from financial difficulty in the early 1960s, and surviving examples are scarce — particularly in the UK. The extreme majority of these early machines were shipped out exclusively in left-hand drive - so finding a genuine right-hand drive car, such as this ex-Singapore car, is a tantalising prospect.
This 1962 example was purchased approximately 12 years ago in poor condition and has since been treated to a comprehensive rebuild encompassing bodywork, interior and mechanical work. The quality of the restoration was validated with a win at a local BMW car club show, and we have to say it's still quite the looker. Now MOT-exempt and registered on UK plates, this historically significant little Beamer is a remarkable car that we're sure will draw plenty of attention at auction. image.png973.46 KB
