The Appeal
The Citroën HY is among the most recognisable commercial vehicles in the world. Its corrugated body panels, front-wheel drive and distinctive profile made it a fixture on French roads for decades. The long-wheelbase HY 72 variant is particularly prized for its generous proportions. This 1965 example, finished in British Racing Green with polished woodwork providing an elegant contrast, presents a particularly distinctive appearance.
In the hands of its current owner since 2012, this HY has been kept in a closed garage and has received considerable attention. Numerous mechanical and cosmetic works have been carried out, whilst the seller advises that the vehicle runs without any mechanical issues. It has a valid roadworthiness certificate until March 2028 and presents in interesting condition for a commercial vehicle over 60 years old.
Prospective buyers should note, however, that the horse compartment, corresponding to the original intended use for this van, remains incomplete. Some cosmetic imperfections are also present, as detailed below. With its ownership history and the extent of works carried out, this HY 72 nonetheless represents an interesting foundation for continued restoration.
