The Appeal
Alec Issigonis is perhaps best-known for the Mini, but his earlier work was equally influential. Over 1.6 million Morris Minors were produced and sold during a 23-year production span from 1948 to 1971. That's a staggering number, which is a testament to the Minor's brilliant design. Finding one is straightforward enough, but finding one that has been thoroughly restored and conscientiously maintained since is a rather different proposition.
This 1966 example was subjected to a comprehensive restoration by Millennium in 2023, a process that included extensive welding, new front wings, new screen rubbers, new tyres, new carpets, and a complete repaint. Since the work was completed, it has been garaged and used only in dry weather, with the underside wax oiled as needed and regularly checked for corrosion. The vendor is upfront that the roof colour does not precisely match the wings, bonnet, and boot, describing this as a car to be enjoyed rather than a concours piece.
Original chrome trim remains in place with honest patina. Mechanically, the vendor states the engine starts first time, sounds right, and is reliable, comfortably reaching 50–60 mph. Practical upgrades including servo brakes and halogen lights add usability. With service history on file and charming period details such as the original tax disc, this Minor 1000 looks a fine way to enjoy one of the most iconic shapes in British motoring.image.png1.46 MB
