Highlights
- Rare Lister conversion of a pre-HE V12 Jaguar XJ-S
- Red leather interior; the Owners Club has reportedly never seen another example so specified
- In current family ownership for approximately 16 years
- Rego and roadworthy exempt as a pre-1977 vehicle
- Accompanied by a Jaguar Owners Club Birth Certificate for the original donor vehicle
The Appeal
Built by the legendary Cambridge racing car manufacturer, the Lister Jaguar XJ-S took Jaguar's already capable grand tourer and elevated it into something altogether more serious. Any Lister Jaguar is a rare find; one based on a 1976 pre-HE donor car, suggesting the XJ-S was at least seven years old when Lister carried out the conversion, is rarer still.
This example is believed to carry a unique specification. The Lister Jaguar owners club has reportedly confirmed they have never encountered another with a red leather interior. It has been in the current family's keeping since 2010, covering a reported 250 or so miles in that time. The vendor reports that the interior presents very well, with the leather on the steering wheel and gear lever gaiter showing minimal signs of use. The bodywork has been repainted by a former TWR body shop specialist, and included with the sale are two unmounted enamel Lister badges and a new set of under-bonnet heat pads.
The vendor describes the driving experience in emphatic terms: "You basically hang on as it just keeps climbing."
